AMD responds to Radeon VII low supply rumours

Following on from AMD's announcement of the Radeon VII GPU at CES last week, rumours began circulating claiming that the GPU will be in extremely low supply at launch. One source claimed that board partners weren't going to make custom options, while another claimed that less than 5,000 units would be made for launch. AMD has since responded, stating that it intends to meet demand.

Tom's Hardware Germany came in with the first rumour based on an anonymous board partner source who said there was “no schedule” for custom versions of the Radeon VII. Meanwhile, Tweaktown has cited a source claiming that fewer than 5,000 Radeon VII graphics cards will be available at launch.

Since then, AMD has responded with its own statement that has been sent out to press: “While we don’t report on production numbers externally, we will have products available via AIB partners and AMD.com at launch of Feb. 7, and we expect Radeon VII supply to meet demand from gamers.”

RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64 GPUs struggled at launch due to low supply, which quickly resulted in price hikes at retail. At this point in time, it is believed that HBM2 availability was the root cause of this. Hopefully this time around, things like that will have been ironed out.

KitGuru Says: We're looking forward to seeing the Radeon VII in action ourselves and putting the new 7nm Vega 2 through its paces. Are any of you thinking about getting the Radeon VII when it comes out?
