Rumour claims that Platinum Games is reviving Scalebound for Nintendo Switch

Following last week's impressive Nintendo Direct, rumours began circulating that Nintendo was reviving a publicly cancelled game. Now, sources are claiming that the game in question is Scalebound, which was cancelled by Microsoft back in January 2017.

Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya was the director on Scalebound and had a lot of passion for the project. There have been some whispers that the game might still return some day- according to sources speaking with Nintendo Insider, the game will return, this time as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

The initial rumour came from Game Informer's Senior Editor, Imran Khan, who told Kinda Funny Games that Nintendo is reviving a “game that's thought to be dead”.

Nintendo does have a good relationship with Platinum Games. The studio has worked with Nintendo on Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 3, and just last week, a new IP called ‘Astral Chain' was announced as a Switch exclusive.

Unfortunately, this rumour does need to be looked at in a more critical light. Scalebound was initially developed as a Microsoft IP, so we don't know for sure who owns the rights. Beyond that, the version of Scalebound that we saw in 2014 and 2016 might be too ambitious for Switch hardware, meaning the new version will likely look and feel very different.

KitGuru Says: This is certainly one of the wilder rumours that have popped up recently. I'm not sure that I believe it, especially since Platinum Games is already juggling two other Nintendo Switch exclusives right now. Still, it would be interesting to see one of the few high-profile Xbox exclusives of this generation suddenly pop up on another console.
