Razer’s Game Store is set to close less than a year after launch

Last year, Razer decided to go head to head with Humble Bundle, GOG and Green Man Gaming with its very own Razer Games Store. Just 10 month later, the company has handed in its two-week notice, as the storefront is set to close on February 28.

The Razer Games store has had its run cut short after launching in April, 2018, spending its lifetime in beta before being axed as “part of the company’s realignment plans.” While Razer will offer assistance beyond the Feb. 28 closure via its customer support, it will no longer be sending updates regarding its storefront efforts.

Games bought on the Razer Game Store are completely safe, given that the retailer distributed Steam and Uplay keys. Pre-order games will be fulfilled, according to Razer’s FAQ, likely via email after the end of the month. It’s worth activating any unused keys given that access to the store will no longer be available, however email records of each key should still be available provided that the user hasn’t deleted them.

Customers are urged to spend any vouchers they might have before this date, while Razer Gold owners have more of a choice by either quickly spending the currency or perusing Razer’s catalogue at their own leisure. Fortunately, if nothing looks appealing, Razer will be “investing in other ways to deliver great content and introduce game promotions through Razer Gold.”

For those inclined to know what’s happening to their data, Razer explicitly states that it will request all information be deleted by any partner Razer Game Store is no longer working with, according to the company’s privacy policy.

“It has been a privilege for us to recommend and deliver great digital game deals to you,” Razer concludes. “We have been extremely fortunate to have you as part of our awesome community. Thank you for the support and making all this possible.”

KitGuru Says: I can’t say I ever used the Razer Game Store, but it seemed like a good idea when it first emerged. Did you use Razer’s storefront?
