As the majority of companies continue to shift from AA batteries to chargeable built-in power sources, Energizer has long been planning its expansion in another market. Partnering with manufacturer Avenir, the firm is set to unveil a staggering 26 new smartphones at Mobile World Congress (MWC) later this month. And yes, you’ve guessed what the focus is.
In news that will be surprising to some, Energizer is already a part of the smartphone world. It has a small range of lower-end models that target the rugged and long-life market, thanks to years of experience in the battery department. MWC is set to take place in Barcelona on the 25th February, where Energizer is set to debut its brand new Ultimate series, full of innovation.
“Among the new releases are a foldable smartphone, a new line of high-end phones, and a device equipped with an 18,000mAh battery,” reads the press release. Energizer faces fierce competition in the bendable mobile market, with Royole debuting its device at CES last month, Samsung set to unveil more about its foldable Galaxy handset on the 20th and Huawei also debuting its flexible smartphone at MWC.

The real headline is easily the 18,000mAh battery, which tops the 4,200mAh on Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro and the 3,174mAh on Apple’s flagship iPhone XS Max. This follows on from last year’s Energizer Power Max P16K Pro, which housed a 16,000mAh battery and was sold in relatively small quantities. Unfortunately, the 18,000mAh battery is likely to appear in one rugged-based smartphone while the remaining will sport a 3,200 – 4,000mAh battery with some form of fast-charge technology.
Thanks to data pulled by GSMArena reveals that the Energizer Ultimate U620S Pop is likely to be the company’s flagship device with a 6.2” 1080p+ display, MediaTek Helio P70 processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This will be expandable with a microSD slot. Energizer is set to forgo a notch, instead opting for a pop-up dual lens housing a 16MP sensor with 2MP for depth. The rear camera is believed to be a triple-lens setup with 16 + 5 + 2MP.
Remember, nothing is confirmed until MWC lands, lasting from Monday 25th February until Thursday 28th.
KitGuru Says: If battery life is your entire focus, then one of Energizer’s 26 new phones might be for you. It does leave me wondering what features will be sacrificed and just how big the device is, though.
