Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds might launch in August

After spending a few years focusing on Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian is jumping back into more modern first-person RPGs this year with The Outer Worlds. The game was announced last year with a 2019 release window, now it looks like we'll be able to get our hands on the game in August.

Over the weekend, the Steam page for The Outer Worlds was updated, adding in an August 6th release date. The release date was then removed from the Steam page but not before the news started getting around.

Obsidian hasn't made any official announcements regarding the game's release date. Given the slip up on the Steam page though, it looks like the studio is hoping to get its game out over the Summer, ahead of the crowded October/November months.

The Outer Worlds is going to play out a bit like Fallout New Vegas, with lots of dialogue choices, perks, character upgrades and more. It is created on a smaller budget though, so while replay value might exist, you won't be spending 100 hours on your first play through. The Outer Worlds was announced before Microsoft's acquisition of Obsidian, so far, it doesn't look like this is going to impact the game's release plans at all- although the game does have a higher chance of being included in the Xbox Game Pass catalog.

KitGuru Says: Now that Metro Exodus is out, The Outer Worlds is my most anticipated game of the year. It will be great to see Obsidian returning to modern RPGs again. Are any of you looking forward to The Outer Worlds? I must admit, August seems like a good time to release given how quiet that month can be.
