The latest Nintendo Direct held many surprises, with one of the biggest coming from none other than Platinum Games. While many of us expected to see something about Bayonetta 3, instead we were introduced to a brand new exclusive game called ‘Astral Chain'.
Astral Chain is directed by Takahisa Taura, who was also the senior game designer on Nier: Automata. Platinum's Hideki Kamiya is also overseeing the project. The game is set in a cyberpunk version of Japan where the police force is tasked with taking on monsters and those looking to tear down modern society.
The game features two main protagonists, both of which use a special weapon known as ‘Legion'. Judging by the gameplay clips that were shown, the combat will see players control two characters. Given that this is being headed up by the game designer behind Nier: Automata, we can expect a unique and fun blend of different gameplay mechanics.
There is still plenty more to learn about Platinum's latest Nintendo Switch exclusive. We'll likely hear more at E3 this year, as the game is due to drop on the 30th of August.
KitGuru Says: For me, Astral Chain was one of the most exciting announcements to come out of this Direct. Platinum Games teaming up with the gameplay designer behind Nier: Automata seems like a perfect match.
