This week, AOC is launching a new addition to its gaming monitor lineup- the G2868PQU. A minimalist 28-inch gaming monitor with a 4K ‘HDR-ready' panel and FreeSync.
The G2868PQU uses a TN panel that covers 102% of the sRGB colour gamut and 82% of the AdobeRGB gamut. While it is listed as a ‘HDR-Ready' monitor, it does not have a specific VESA certification so until reviews hit, we won't really know how much of an impact this has. We can tell you that the monitor has a peak brightness of 300 nits, which is 100 nits lower than the DisplayHDR 400 standard. On the plus side, you do get FreeSync support, which now works on both AMD and Nvidia graphics cards.
At a price point of £319, this isn't a high-refresh gaming monitor. Instead, you'll get 4K at 60Hz, which makes sense for the price bracket.
On the image adjustment side of things, the OSD gives you access to ‘AOC Game Colour', which lets you adjust saturation to your liking. You can also set up a custom colour profile, or use one of AOC's built-in options. AOC's ‘Shadow Control' option will also let you adjust the black level of dark areas on screen to your liking.
We'll be seeing the AOC G2868PQU hit store shelves at some point this month. The MSRP is £319 but final retail prices could vary depending on where you shop.
KitGuru Says: On paper, all of the specs here make good sense for the £300-£350 price bracket. It will be interesting to see reviews though, this might be listed as ‘HDR-ready' but I'm not sure how far a 300 nit peak brightness will get you.
