Borderlands 3 has been teased for a PAX East reveal

Over the past few years, fans have been clamouring for information on the long-anticipated sequel to Borderlands 2, with the developer remaining distinctly quiet on the matter.  Now, it looks as though Gearbox is finally preparing itself for an announcement of some sorts during PAX East at the end of the month.

Fans of the series haven’t had anything new to sink their teeth into since Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel launched in 2014, while the last numbered entry was Borderlands 2 in 2012. Gearbox revealed that it was working on a third mainline title on the eve of its Borderlands: The Handsome Collection launch, compiling the two aforementioned games in 2015.

During PAX East 2017, the studio unveiled a new tech demo to showcase its new engine. Excitement was promptly built for a Borderlands 3 thanks to the demo sporting the signature cel-shaded aesthetic of the series. During this time, CEO Randy Pitchford stated that 90% of the development team had moved onto a project that “most of you guys want us to be working on.”

Gearbox will be returning to PAX East this year, sneakily teasing the number “3” in a cel-shaded image on its Twitter post. The panel itself will give fans the “opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at Gearbox Software and Gearbox Publishing, along with the latest news and updates from the makers of Borderlands, Battleborn, Brothers in Arms, and more! We will have never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises, so don’t miss out!”

Of course, this isn’t solid confirmation that Borderlands 3 will finally be unveiled, but fans should turn their attention to the various livestreams on March 28-31.

KitGuru Says: I love the charm of Borderlands, from the graphics to the quirky characters. Unfortunately, the endless loot system has been something that I never took well to. Are you excited for Borderlands 3?
