Halo TV series has found its Master Chief

Almost a year ago, we learned that the long awaited Halo TV series would finally be getting under way. Showtime has signed on and ordered a 10 episode run for the first season. Now, casting announcements are finally being made, with Pablo Schreiber set to portray Master Chief.

The Halo series will follow an original story, so while elements may be brought in from the games and books, don't expect certain events to play out exactly the same. According to Variety, Showtime's series describes Master Chief as Earth's most advanced warrior in the 26th century, looking to save humanity from the Covenant threat. The Halo series has also cast Yerin Ha in the role of a completely new character, ‘Quan Ah', a young 16-year old from the Outer Colonies who ends up meeting Master Chief amid all of the chaos.

Halo will begin filming later this year in Budapest, with a release planned for some time in 2020. Schreiber has previously taken on roles in Orange is the New Black, Weeds, The Wire, American Gods and a few other shows.

343 Industries is involved with overseeing the project and lending some executive producers to the show. Originally, Rupert Wyatt was set to be a director on the series but scheduling conflicts ended up getting in the way late last year. It is unclear if a new director has been picked out at this time.

KitGuru Says: Live-action Halo has been in the works in one form or another for over a decade. It seems that it will now finally be happening. With Halo Infinite also rumoured for 2020, next year is going to be a big one for Microsoft's flagship franchise.
