Call of Duty: Mobile will be playable on iOS and Android next week

Call of Duty has been one of the most popular franchises in gaming for years now, generating billions for Activision every single year. That number could receive a boost in 2019, as after years of rumours, Call of Duty Mobile is actually happening, and it will be publicly playable soon.

Call of Duty: Mobile was announced in March as part of GDC. PUBG and Fortnite have shown that competitive PC/console shooters can succeed on mobile, so Call of Duty will be trying its hand at it next. The mobile version will include five multiplayer modes, including Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Domination, Frontline and Free-For-All. Various maps from other Call of Duty games will also appear, including Nuketown, Crash, Hijacked, Crossfire, Standoff, Killhouse and Firing Range.

Signature weapons and loadout options from previous games will appear, including fan-favourites from Black Ops and Modern Warfare. Player customisation is available (how else will they sell you skins?) but you will also be able to choose to play as six characters that have appeared throughout the Call of Duty series.

As with any shooter, mobile touch interfaces aren't great for competitive play but they do suffice. With Call of Duty Mobile, Activision will be looking to improve things a bit though, with the option for gyroscope aiming.

Call of Duty: Mobile isn't ready for a full launch yet but those who sign up will get beta access on iOS and Android, with the first test taking place next week.

KitGuru Says: As much as I don't like the idea of playing Call of Duty on a smartphone screen, Call of Duty on mobile has a very real chance to blow up in the same way Fortnite and PUBG did. Especially in Asia, where mobile gaming is much more prevalent. Are any of you going to try this one out?
