After years of joking about it, Razer is actually going to make its own toaster. The 2016 April Fools joke has now come full circle, with Razer CEO, Min-Liang Tan announcing plans to actually make this happen thanks to fan demand.
The idea of a Razer branded toaster first came about in 2013, when the Facebook page ‘Give us the Razer Toaster' was formed. Later in 2016, Razer decided to use this idea for ‘Project Breadwinner‘ as part of an April Fools day joke. Razer CEO, Min-Liang Tan then issued a challenge to toaster enthusiasts- get one million likes on the Facebook page and the toaster will be made. To make things easier, each Razer Toaster tattoo would count for 100,000 likes towards the goal. So far, 44,000 people have liked the page and 12 people complied and got the tattoo.
On his Facebook page, Razer's CEO confirmed that due to fan dedication, he will now be putting together a team of designers and engineers to bring the toaster to life, although it will take a few years.
Project Breadwinner was shown with USB ports on the front and the ability to brand toast with the Razer logo. Nowadays RGB has completely taken over, so this could end up featuring Razer Chroma in some form.
KitGuru Says: Razer has always had dedicated fans but to think that they managed to convince the CEO to greenlight a toaster is still astounding. I do expect this to be a limited release when it does arrive though, I'm sure Razer isn't looking to be in the toaster market for an extended period of time.
