Square Enix still being quiet on Final Fantasy 7 Remake episodes

At E3 this year, Square Enix gave us our first proper look at Final Fantasy VII Remake and its gameplay changes. At this point, we know that the first part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is coming out in March but unfortunately, Square Enix isn’t sharing its plans beyond that, or even letting us know how many parts the game will be split into.

The first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake focuses entirely on Midgar, the city you enter at the very beginning of the game. The developers have expanded this section greatly, so you will be spending a lot more time with your party early on and getting a lot more backstory this time around. In fact, Square Enix says this first part of the remake will be as big as a typical numbered Final Fantasy game.

The downside here is, we have no idea how many parts to expect, or when to expect them. Speaking with Kotaku during an E3 demo for the game, Final Fantasy producer, Yoshinori Kitase, said:

“When we started out planning the plot for the first game, it hit us again, at that point we decided we were going to focus the first game on Midgar and what happens in Midgar. Unfortunately, we can’t say anything more about future games, because we don’t know ourselves”.

In the original version of Final Fantasy VII, Midgar was a small fraction of the overall game, so there is still a lot of ground to cover. Of course, of part-one has taken this long and turned out to be this ambitious, then it could be another few years before we see part two.

KitGuru Says: From the sounds of it, Final Fantasy VII Remake is going to be its own multi-part series of full releases, rather than a traditional episodic release with smaller but more frequent content drops.
