More insiders speak out on Dead space 2 cancellation

After seemingly successfully reviving the Dead Space franchise a decade after its final game, EA Motive appeared poised and ready to recreate the now classic trilogy – all the while fixing the past games’ many mistakes. According to insiders however, poor sales for the first game has resulted in the cancellation of a sequel.  Despite EA denying these claims, the report has since been corroborated further.

Recently, we reported on the status of Dead Space 2, which according to insider Jeff Grubb was cancelled following poor sales for 2023’s remake. EA then went on to deny these claims, releasing a statement to IGN saying “We don't normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story.”

EA’s statement prompted a response from Grubb, who commented “I give you my permission to believe EA if you want, but whenever a company says ‘that isn't true’ but they don't specify which part of the story they are talking about, well … yeah. Dead Space 2 was definitely being planned. It had a code name. And they aren't making it now.”

It seems Grubb has been vindicated, as perhaps the most trusted insider currently working is Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who went on to corroborate Grubb’s claims, saying:

“After finishing the Dead Space remake, which was released in January 2023, a small team at the Electronic Arts subsidiary Motive spent a few months conceiving ideas for a new entry in the series, said the people. But those plans were never given a greenlight and fizzled before they could get very far. Since last summer, that team has instead been exploring other ideas while the bulk of the developers who worked on Dead Space moved to different projects.”

Despite releasing one (arguably two) great games and a controversial 3rd entry, EA looked to be finally giving Dead Space fans exactly what they asked for. Unfortunately, it seems the publisher doesn’t want us to have too much of a good thing.
