The Prince of Persia franchise has been ignored for a good decade, with publisher Ubisoft opting instead to focus on its Assassin’s Creed series. Earlier this year however the franchise was revived with the excellent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Just a few short months later, yet another 2D entry is on its way, with The Rogue Prince of Persia entering Early Access next month.
Over the past week or so, we started hearing rumours that Evil Empire – the team behind the rogue-like dungeon crawler ‘Dead Cells’ – have been working on a Prince of Persia title.
Ubisoft has now officially revealed this project, with The Rogue Prince of Persia launching in Early Access on the 14th of May. As is in the name, The Rogue Prince of Persia is a stylish 2D rogue-lite which is described as follows:
“Experience a fast-paced, challenging but accessible roguelite as you master acrobatic moves and flow seamlessly between platforming and combat. Find new weapons, equip trinkets with special effects and upgrade them to make your own builds. Discover new characters, information and areas as you try to find a way to save Persia from a Hun invasion and become the hero you have always wanted to be.”
For the uninitiated, Dead Cells is a highly addictive title featuring visceral and fast-paced combat alongside a plethora of creative weaponry. If the Rogue Prince of Persia is even half as good as Dead Cells, then fans will be in for a good time.
