The Elder Scrolls Online has made $2 billion so far

The Elder Scrolls Online doesn't make a lot of headlines these days, but the game is still alive and well. Through yearly expansions and consistent content updates, ESO has become one of the most lore-rich, solo-friendly MMOs on the market, especially for those interested in story content. This has led ESO to nearly $2 billion in lifetime sales.

The Elder Scrolls Online first launched on PC in April 2014, exactly ten years ago. As reported by PCGamer, during a GDC talk, Zenimax Online Studios director, Matt Firor, confirmed that the game has generated close to $2 billion in revenue since then, equating to roughly $200 million per year on average.

Unfortunately, we don't have an exact number, or a breakdown of how much of that money came through subscriptions, expansion purchases or purchases via the Crown Store.

ESO is currently holding its 10th Anniversary event, which includes a massive sale on all content for the game, so if you've never picked it up, you can grab it and all current expansions for less than £15. In June, the next chapter of the game will go live with the Gold Road expansion.

KitGuru Says: The Necrom expansion sucked me back into ESO last year. It isn't the same kind of game as WoW or Final Fantasy 14. In many ways, ESO is designed as a solo experience and is very enjoyable in that format if you just want to blast through some main quest lines and join some guilds. The game still pulls in decent player numbers, even if it isn't the most openly talked about title, so if you're trying to scratch that Elder Scrolls itch, it is well worth jumping in to, even now 10 years on.
