While Destiny 2 had a pretty awful 2023, Bungie is looking to turn things around with its next expansion, The Final Shape, which will also serve as the finale for the game's major story arc. The expansion was delayed to the Summer a while back but Bungie is now starting to showcase what Guardians can expect from the new content.
On June 4, Guardians will finally enter The Pale Heart of the Traveler to chase after the Witness, wielding new powers to take on the final boss of the Light V Dark saga, which kicked off with Destiny 1 back in 2014. The new gameplay trailer gives us a look at what's ahead, including a preview of the Prismatic subclass, which combines the powers of ‘light and darkness'.
Given that we spent the entirety of the last expansion discovering a different subclass, Strand, with the purpose of using it to take on The Witness, the addition of another new set of powers is a bit of a surprise. Additionally, Destiny is finally getting a new enemy type to go up against, which are detailed below:
- Grim: A highly mobile flying enemy that slows and suppresses a Guardian’s abilities if they get too close.
- Husk: An acrobatic melee bruiser that sends a deployable geist enemy toward you unless you hit their weak spot with a final blow.
- Attendant and Weaver: By wielding Stasis and Strand, respectively, these units can instantly change the flow of the encounter and force Guardians to pay attention to their positioning on the battlefield.
Players will also be able to equip an Exotic class item for the first time. An exotic Hunter's Cloak, Titan Mark or Warlock Bond will be available with the expansion, adding new perks to enhance your abilities further.
From the sounds of it, The Final Shape will see Destiny 2 players achieving new levels of power, beyond what was seen in previous expansions, which makes good sense given that this may well be the last major expansion many players jump in to.

KitGuru Says: Lightfall killed much of my enthusiasm for Destiny but I am still very curious to see how everything wraps up in The Final Shape. I don't think I'd be jumping back in for a new 10-year story arc though. Are you returning to Destiny 2 for The Final Shape? Will you continue playing afterwards or is this your jumping off point?
