Sony’s PlayStation Classic continues to dwindle in price

Sony decided to follow in Nintendo's footsteps last year and attempt to capture holiday season sales with the release of a mini-classic console. The PlayStation Classic's launch wasn't the smoothest, the 20 pre-installed games didn't really live up to what many had hoped for and the initial price tag put a lot of potential customers off. The PS Classic received its first major price cut almost immediately after Christmas but since then, prices have been slashed even further to get rid of remaining stocks.

Initially, prices were dropped by about 40%, bringing the cost down from £90/$100 to £50/$60. Now, Amazon in the US and the UK are selling the PlayStation Classic even cheaper, with pricing sitting at around £35 in the UK and $25 in the US. With Prime Day coming up, we can likely expect another price reduction in the UK market to shift more units taking up warehouse space.

At this dramatically lower price, the PlayStation Classic seems like a better deal. Even if you just end up modding it to put other games on the system, which is very easy to do. As a reminder, here are the games you get out of the box:

  1. Battle Arena Toshinden
  2. Cool Boarders 2
  3. Destruction Derby
  4. Final Fantasy VII
  5. Grand Theft Auto
  6. Intelligent Qube
  7. Jumping Flash
  8. Metal Gear Solid
  9. Mr Driller
  10. Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
  11. Rayman
  12. Resident Evil Director’s Cut
  13. Revelations: Persona
  14. Ridge Racer Type 4
  15. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
  16. Syphon Filter
  17. Tekken 3
  18. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
  19. Twisted Metal
  20. Wild Arms

Unfortunately, there are some fan favourite games missing from the list, including Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Rachet and Clank etc. With that said, the Classic is a fairly simple emulator, so there are workarounds.

KitGuru Says: The NES and SNES Classics were huge sellers for Nintendo but Sony seemed to drop the ball with its own console. Did any of you pick up a PlayStation Classic? Are you considering getting one now that the prices have dropped so far?

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
