Oculus is rumoured to be partnering with Ubisoft on VR versions of Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell

Ubisoft has partnered up with Oculus on several occasions to show off its own virtual reality projects. Eagle Flight and Star Trek Bridge Crew have been the two biggest examples so far, but Ubisoft has been quieter on the VR front recently. That could change soon, as rumour has it that Ubisoft has granted Oculus the license to produce VR games for Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell.

According to sources speaking with The Information, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg personally got involved to get this deal done. This deal reportedly grants Facebook and by extension, Oculus, the exclusive license to produce VR versions of both Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Facebook hopes that a deal like this will boost the adoption of VR headsets and more specifically, boost Oculus's standing in the market.

Facebook has released two new VR headsets this year. The Oculus Rift S is a moderate re-design of the original Rift with a better display and inside-out tracking instead of base stations. The Oculus Quest is also out in the wild, which is Facebook's take on the ‘VR console' as an all in one system that doesn't require a PC and runs a curated library of games and apps.

We don't know when we might see this Ubisoft/Oculus partnership officially announced but hopefully we'll hear more later in the year, or in 2020 as Oculus continues to try and get more people to buy into the platform.

KitGuru Says: High quality VR games are starting to become more common each year. If done well, an Assassin's Creed or Splinter Cell VR game could end up being awesome, but we will have to wait and see how things turn out as these are just rumours for the time being.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
