Back when Final Fantasy VII Remake was first announced, we learned that Square Enix had some form of exclusivity deal in place with Sony for the PS4. There has been talk of a PC version coming later on but for the most part, Final Fantasy VII Remake is only being talked about as a PS4 game. That changed a little yesterday, when Xbox Germany mistakenly announced the game for Xbox One.
In a social media video promoting the game, the Xbox Germany Facebook page said that Final Fantasy VII Remake would be heading to Xbox One in March 2020 on the same day as PS4. Microsoft eventually deleted the video and said that the post went live due to an ‘internal mistake'. Still, this raised the question of the game's exclusivity and whether or not such a deal with Sony was still in place.
Square Enix has since chimed in on the error itself, stating that the company has “no plans for other platforms” while reiterating that Final Fantasy VII Remake will release on March 3rd 2020 for the PS4. When it comes to timed exclusivity deals, this type of response is not uncommon, we heard similar statements back when Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced as an Xbox console exclusive.
So Final Fantasy VII Remake may well come to other platforms eventually but for now, don't expect to hear about anything other than the PS4 release.
KitGuru Says: It is not often that we see an error like this from one of the big three console makers. Hopefully Final Fantasy VII Remake does spread beyond PS4 eventually though. Are any of you planning on getting Final Fantasy VII Remake when it comes out next year? Or will you be waiting and hoping for the game to come to other platforms first?
