Custom-cooled RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT GPUs slated for August/September

AMD's RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT graphics cards are now officially out in the wild. We have reviewed both and were impressed by what was on offer with AMD's reference design but custom versions from board partners are on the way, although they will take a while to land at retail.

So far, all of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT models available are using the reference blower-fan cooler, which does an okay job but many will be waiting for beefier cooling solutions to arrive. According to our sources, we will start to see the first custom GPUs in August, alongside a new driver with improved overclocking tools.

Beyond that, ASUS has confirmed itself that while its Navi GPUs on the market right now are bound to AMD's reference cooler, the company is already tweaking and gearing up to release new Radeon GPUs with custom cooler designs. We should get more details on those in September.

When it came to RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64, there was a limited number of custom versions made available and it took a long time to bring these to market. There will be a pretty big gap between RX 5700 and the first custom cards too, but it sounds like there is going to be much more support for Navi compared to Vega.

KitGuru Says: We'll be keeping an eye out over the coming weeks for more information on custom RX 5700 GPUs. So far, it looks like we can expect to see the first ones arrive in August, with extra versions coming in September and beyond. Are any of you currently waiting on custom versions of the RX 5700 before upgrading?
