ASUS ROG Strix 43-inch 120Hz monitor pre-orders go live

We've been keeping our eye on the ASUS ROG Strix XG438Q monitor for some time now. We first heard about this 43-inch, 120Hz, 4K beast back at CES and spotted it again at Computex. Now, this display is finally ready to hit the market and the price is honestly pretty good compared to the first wave of 4K/144Hz monitors we saw last year.

Unlike the first high refresh rate 4K monitors, the ROG Strix XG438Q uses FreeSync instead of G-Sync and thanks to a driver update earlier this year, Nvidia GPU users will be able to take advantage of FreeSync in addition to AMD users. Instead of aiming for a full 144Hz refresh rate, the XG438Q opts for 4K/120Hz, which is delivered via a DisplayPort 1.4 connection.

The panel itself is VA with a low 4ms response time. It also packs DisplayHDR 600, which means you'll get 600 nits of peak brightness for HDR content. The display has an anti-glare coating so you won't need to keep your curtains shut all day and on the colour accuracy front, this monitor displays 90% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

We were originally expecting this monitor to start shipping out in August but it is a couple of weeks behind. Pre-orders are live in the UK for just over £1100 and from what we've heard, stock should start to arrive by the end of next week.

KitGuru Says: This is still a very expensive monitor, but considering the refresh rate, size and resolution, I actually think £1100 is a pretty good price. Especially when you consider the first 4K/144Hz G-Sync monitors pushed well over £2000. What do you all think of the ROG Strix XG348Q? Is this something you would consider getting?
