Cyberpunk 2077 is going all in on first-person

CD Projekt Red has previously talked about its development process on Cyberpunk 2077, which has involved lots of iteration and testing of new ideas over the last several years. At this point, the game is due out in just over six months, so we weren't expecting any more big changes to be announced but it seems there will be at least one, as CDPR has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will transition to first-person cutscenes.

In the small amount of game footage we've seen to date, there have been third-person cutscenes where you see your character interacting. When the game eventually comes out, these instances will be very rare, as CD Projekt Red is going all in on first-person immersion.

Initially, we learned about this change through a fan's Twitter DM to the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account, which confirmed first-person cutscenes and even sex scenes. However, as Marcin Momot confirms, you will still see your character in the inventory screen, during driving sequences, in mirrors and occasionally during story cutscenes.

This may seem like an odd change, especially for a game that has had so much effort put into character creation. We are also used to seeing our characters in RPGs during conversations, so this will be a big change.

KitGuru Says: I'm not sure a first-person only approach is the right way to go but I'm sure the folks at CD Projekt Red have put plenty of thought into it. I'm still excited and I'll be going in with an open mind. What do you all think of this change?
