The folks at Nightdive Studios have been working on a crowdfunded remake of the original System Shock for some time now. The project has been through some ups and downs but appears to be back on track now. Before we get to the big remake though, it looks like we can expect a remaster of System Shock 2.
To celebrate the game’s 20th anniversary this week, Nightdive announced that it will be releasing System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition. There is no specific release date just yet, but the studio promises that it is ‘coming soon’.

This wouldn’t be the first time that System Shock 2 has had a re-release. Nightdive worked on bringing the game back up and running on modern systems back in 2013 but it looks like this new re-release will have a few more upgrades packed in.
This is just another part of Nightdive’s ambitious plan to bring the System Shock franchise back to the forefront. The original game is getting a complete remake, with a playable alpha version set to drop later this year. There has also been talk of System Shock 3 coming after the remake.
KitGuru Says: System Shock has a strong place in gaming history and many of us are excited to see it making a comeback. I am hoping that the remake does well, after all, it would be great to go from that straight into a long-awaited sequel.
