LG is launching two new 4K monitors with IPS Black technology and calibration sensor

While IPS offers excellent colour range, it does not come close to matching the true black levels of an OLED display. However, LG has been working to improve this with its IPS Black technology. Now, LG is launching two new 4K displays with IPS Black implemented, bringing deeper blacks to those who would rather use IPS over OLED for fear of burn-in.

These new versions use IPS Black panel technology, offering better contrast and colour performance than standard IPS screens. This technology enhances the depiction of dark situations and colour accuracy at various angles, making them ideal for graphic design, video editing, and other colour-sensitive activities. Each display comes equipped with a calibration sensor that, when combined with LG's Calibration Studio, provides continuous accuracy in colour representation.

According to Guru3D, both new IPS Black screens have a brightness of 400 nits, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, and about 1.07 billion display colours. With a 4K resolution, a refresh rate of 60Hz, and a 5ms response time, you can expect serviceable gaming performance, but for competitive titles, you may want to look elsewhere for a higher refresh rate display. Still, the image quality should be better than you're used to seeing on a typical IPS display. DisplayPort, HDMI, USB Type-C, and USB 2.0 ports are all built in for multiple connectivity options and the monitors have dual 5W speakers built in for convenient audio.

The two models are VESA DisplayHDR 400-certified and feature functional multitasking capabilities like a KVM switch. This allows users to operate two computers using a single keyboard, mouse, and monitor, thereby increasing productivity and workplace efficiency. They also come with an ergonomic stand that allows for various adjustments, including tilt, pivot, and height adjustments. Alternatively, users can pair them with a VESA 100×100 monitor arm. Both models are estimated to be priced at approximately $889 USD for the 27-inch and $1,049 USD for the 31.5-inch, inclusive of tax.
