Insomniac’s most ambitious VR game to date is coming to Oculus in November

Prior to developing Spider-Man and officially being acquired by Sony, Insomniac was exploring games on other platforms, with Oculus being the most notable example. Over the years, Insomniac has released three VR games for the Oculus Rift and in November, the studio's most ambitious VR project yet, Stormland, will be officially released.

Oculus Connect 6 has been keeping us very busy on the VR news front this week. We've reported on the new Half Dome VR headset prototypes, Oculus Link and hand tracking improvements coming to the Quest and even Gear VR's slow decline. In terms of games, we now know that Respawn Entertainment is bringing back Medal of Honor for VR and Episode 2 of Vader Immortal has officially released.

As exciting as all of that is, Insomniac's Stormland is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious VR games yet. The game lands on the Oculus store on the 14th of November, featuring an open world to explore, co-op play and more. You can see some of what the game has to offer in the trailer below:

The game is said to offer users a good range of movement, with players having to fly around, jump from ramps made from clouds, climb up structures and glide down from heights while exploring the landscape and fighting off enemies with different weapons. There are also different player upgrades to unlock, so you can power up your abilities as you journey through.

Stormland is being released as an Oculus Rift exclusive, although with the Oculus Link launching in November too, owners of the standalone Quest headset will be able to hook up to a PC and play it that way. SteamVR headset owners could also use the Revive tool to get the game running on a non-Oculus headset.

KitGuru says: Are you an Oculus rift owner looking forward to Stormland’s release? Unfortunately, this is likely to be the last PC VR game from Insomniac for the foreseeable future, as the studio has been acquired by Sony.
