Evidence of 3rd Gen Threadripper continues to appear

There has been plenty of talk surrounding 3rd Gen Ryzen processors and the X570 platform over the last couple of months, but we haven't heard much about what's next for Threadripper. We were already told that AMD would be revisiting Threadripper in the future and a third generation could be closer than we think.

Back in late July, the HWInfo 6.10 update added a reference to the ASUS ROG Zenith II X590 motherboard, which has not been officially announced yet. ASUS typically uses the Zenith series for AMD's HEDT platform, so it stands to reason that a Zenith II would be targeting a new generation of Threadripper chips based on the Zen 2 architecture.

A little bit more was added to the story today, as CPU-Z's latest update adds preliminary support for Ryzen Threadripper 3000 and Intel Ice Lake processors.

We don't have any more concrete information beyond that for now, but there is a trail of breadcrumbs falling and it would seem that 3rd Gen Threadripper and X590 are indeed on the way.

KitGuru Says: Given that Ryzen on X570 goes all the way up to 16-cores, I did have my doubts about future Threadripper, although there are plenty of other reasons to go with a HEDT platform beyond cores and threads. Whether or not 3rd Gen Threadripper will make its way out before the end of the year remains to be seen.
