Destiny 2 is off to an excellent start on Steam

Bungie’s efforts to reinvent Destiny 2 this year seem to be paying off, with the new expansion being well received so far in addition to the game getting a big show of support from players on Steam. Not only has the game accrued some very high concurrent player numbers, but the store page also has ‘Mostly Positive’ reviews.

Destiny 2 went through some big changes this week. The base game and the first two DLCs are now packaged together in the form of Destiny 2: A New Light, the Forsaken expansion has had a price cut and Shadowkeep is now available to continue the story and send players back to the moon. The jump from Battle.net to Steam has gone down well too, with the game garnering 226,352 concurrent players in the last 24 hours.

Those numbers aren’t enough to put Destiny 2 at the very top of Steam’s top ten played games, but it does put the game in the top four, handily beating out Rainbow Six Siege, GTA V, Team Fortress 2, Warframe and more.

Beyond that, Steam players seem to be impressed so far, with Destiny 2 garnering almost 13,000 reviews so far. The overall rating is ‘mostly positive', with individual reviewers praising the usual points- gunplay, graphics, mix of activities etc. There are some negative reviews too, with some players taking issue with the new introduction to the game, which walks you through some of the different activities Destiny has to offer without really setting up the story at all. Some players also don’t like the new base light level, which is now set to 750, whereas before you would level up from 1 to 30 over the course of the campaign before really investing in hunting for better gear to boost Light Level.

Overall though, Bungie’s new era of Destiny seems to be off to a great start.

KitGuru Says: One thing that really stood out to me was the fact that the loading times seem to be quicker on PC now. The Tower and other world areas are also a lot more populated than they were just a few months ago. Have any of you tried out Destiny 2 since it came to Steam?
