New Asus ROG Strix M.2 enclosure offers high-speed data transfer that fits in your pocket

Asus is always looking for innovative ways to extend and enhance its ROG product line to satisfy gamers’ and enthusiasts’ needs. Their most recent addition is the ROG Strix Arion M.2 SSD enclosure which offers users M.2 NVMe SSD performance on the go.

The Asus ROG Strix Arion SSD enclosure is a USB device, compatible with all a PCIe 3.0 M.2 SSDs up to 2280 form factor without integrated heat spreaders. The device offers screwdriver free installation so it should be quick and simple to add or remove a drive to the Arion enclosure.

Featuring USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectivity, the Asus ROG Strix Arion M.2 enclosure offers lightning-fast data transfer rates while being small enough to fit in your pocket. It provides compatibility for 2230, 2242,2260 and 2280 form factor M.2 SSD drives, which makes it versatile. As you would expect, the ROG logo is also RGB, which can be synced up with other devices via Asus Aura.

With USB 3.2 Gen 2 offering transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps, the Arion M.2 SSD enclosure ensures users will  achieve the maximum transfer speed over USB, with the device potentially capable of 1.25 GB/s transfer rate. This is much faster than any external HDD or USB flash drives currently on the market.

The Arion is constructed from aluminium with integrated thermal pads to enable even heat dissipation from the installed M.2 SSD, thereby allowing consistent performance. Asus plans to supply the Arion with a protective holder, this will allow the device to be attached securely to a backpack or keyring.

Without knowing what USB to PCIe bridge the Arion enclosure uses, we cannot comment on real-world performance. However, at a recent summit, Realtek was showing off its RTL9210 bridge with RGB driver capabilities, so its possible that the ROG Strix Arion enclosure could use this bridge, since Asus has built-in RGB lighting in the device.

Asus has yet to confirm when the ROG Strix Arion M.2 SSD enclosure will be available or how much it will cost but we'll be sure to keep an eye out for any updates.

KitGuru says: Are you looking for a high speed portable storage device? If so, could the Asus ROG Strix be the what you are after? It certainly offers high performance potential..
