Kojima Productions confirms Death Stranding for PC in 2020

Ever since leaving Konami behind and rebuilding Kojima Productions from the ground up, Hideo Kojima has been focused on delivering Death Stranding on PS4 in collaboration with Sony. There have been rumours of a PC release but we haven't had solid confirmation. That changed today, with Kojima Productions announcing that Death Stranding will come to PC in 2020.

While there was some chatter around a PC release in late 2015, all focus since then has been on the PS4 version. During a deleted Q&A session about Sony's collaboration with Kojima Productions, a PlayStation EU community rep did say that the game is “planned to become available on PC” after PS4 but with no announcements since then, it was looking like those plans might have been dropped. Fortunately, that is no longer the case.

Death Stranding will be releasing on PS4 this year, on the 8th of November. Then in ‘early summer' 2020, the game will also come to PC. The game is based on the Decima Engine, the same one that powered Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games, which offered stunning visuals on consoles. With that in mind, it will be great to see how much further it can be pushed running on top-end PC hardware.

Death Stranding will be Kojima's second open world game after MGS V. It is described as a completely new genre, so in true Kojima fashion, we don't entirely know what to expect from story or gameplay other than the fact that the main quest will see players attempting to reconnect humanity and rebuilding bridges between communities.

KitGuru Says: While there was some initial talk of Death Stranding on PC, since then, all signs have pointed towards the game being a PS4 exclusive. Now we have official confirmation on a PC release, although the release window is a bit vague, so the game could arrive anywhere between June and September. Are many of you looking forward to Death Stranding? Will you be picking it up on PS4 or waiting for the PC version?
