While CD Projekt Red said it had ‘no plans' for advanced modding tools for The Witcher 3 back in 2015, the times have changed. The studio announced plans to launch a proper editor for the game, allowing much more comprehensive mods and user-generated content. Now, the RED Kit has officially arrived.
The RED Kit is a set of new tools that allow creators to form their own questlines, or make edit existing content. This means Skyrim-style expansion and quest mods will finally be available for The Witcher 3, assuming modders are up to the challenge of creating such content.
The new mod editor will only be available on PC and there don't seem to be any plans to support mods in The Witcher 3 on any of the console versions. The RED Kit is now available through a Play Test, which you can request access to through the Steam Store page right now. Assuming everything is working correctly, the tools should then become available to all shortly after. You can add the RED Kit to your Steam wishlist if you want to be notified as soon as it becomes available.

KitGuru Says: A more comprehensive set of modding tools can only be a good thing. Hopefully this will inject some new life into the game in the years ahead to ease the wait for The Witcher 4, which CD Projekt Red is working on right now. Eventually, I hope we see similar mod tools for Cyberpunk 2077.
