Fallout 76 hits new player milestone

The peak concurrent player count on Steam for Fallout games just keeps increasing. Thanks to the success of Amazon's new Fallout TV series and ongoing sales across all Fallout games, some Fallout games are hitting new all-time peak concurrent player counts.

Based on the data gathered by SteamDB, Fallout 4 used to average 20,000–24,000 players daily, but as of this weekend, it has over 164,000 concurrent players. Fallout Shelter and the original Fallout are also being played more, with the former peaking at 8,400 players and the latter at nearly 4,000 players. Fallout: New Vegas, a favourite for many of the series' fans, is also doing exceptionally well, with a peak of almost 44,000 players playing the game simultaneously.

Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 are hitting new highs on Steam. Fallout 2 peaked at over 2,000 players, while Fallout 3 (GOTY and standard editions) had a cumulative peak of over 14,000 concurrent players. Fallout 76 remains the most impressive of the bunch, outperforming its Steam launch figures, with a peak of close to 74,000 players on Steam alone.

Unfortunately, this current batch of Fallout games are likely going to be all fans have for the next several years. Bethesda isn't planning to make Fallout 5 until it has wrapped up work on The Elder Scrolls 6, which is currently in the early stages of development.
