Razer aims to eliminate audio lag with Hammerhead True wireless ear buds

The Razer Hammerhead ear buds have gone through a number of design changes and upgrades over the last few years, with the Hammerhead BT wireless launching in 2018 and the Hammerhead USB-C hitting shelves earlier this year. Now just in time to compete against Apple's AirPod Pro headphones, Razer is introducing the Hammerhead True Wireless ear buds, aiming to be the most responsive, low latency wireless ear buds on the market.

The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless ear buds certainly look like they could compete with Apple's AirPods. Razer's design is less curvy and appears to have slightly larger housing for the 13mm custom-tuned drivers, which have been adjusted to provide deeper bass and cleaner mid tones for more accurate audio. Since these are true earbuds, you do get a few different sized silicone sleeves, so you can swap around to find the most comfortable fit.

Now it's all sounding good so far, but what about that ‘True Wireless' technology? These ear buds use Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity with a signal range of up to 10 meters. According to Razer, the Hammerhead True Wireless earbuds can maintain an ultra-low 60ms input latency, making it easier for the ear buds to remain in sync with the device controlling the music without stuttering or random cut-outs.

The Hammerhead True Wireless ear buds come with their own wireless charging case, which can fully recharge the ear buds around four times before needing to be plugged in itself. The case can be plugged in to charge via a USB-C cable and if you leave the ear buds in the case, they will charge up at the same time. The ear buds themselves can be used for three continuous hours before needing to charge again, with a full charge taking roughly 1.5 hours.

A couple of final features worthy of note- once you've paired these ear buds to a device, they will automatically reconnect the next time you pull the ear buds out of the case. Since most will be using these ear buds with a smartphone, a microphone is present for voice commands via your phone's digital assistant. The stems of the ear buds are also touch-enabled, so you can use taps or swipes to change music tracks, answer or hang up on a call, play/pause what you're listening to or activate your smartphone's digital assistant without needing to get your phone out.

Razer's new wireless Hammerhead ear buds seem like a good alternative for those who don't want to with Apple, although we'll have to wait for reviews to get the final verdict on overall quality.
