Earlier this week, Ubisoft held its quarterly financial earnings call with investors, going over recent sales performance and adjusting financial expectations for the months ahead. The big news from Ubisoft this time around was that some of its big releases scheduled for 2020 have been delayed after Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s poor launch. There is some upside to these delays though, with Ubisoft confirming that its next big games will also be coming to next-gen consoles.
The PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Project Scarlett are both due to release in the holiday season next year with upgraded Zen 2 and Navi CPU/GPU architecture from AMD, ray-tracing support and SSDs for faster loading times, which have become an issue on the HDDs in current-gen consoles.
With Three of Ubisoft’s big 2020 games now pushed back to the 2nd half of the year, or into 2021, Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot confirmed that these will be cross-generation titles, targeting the PS5 and Project Scarlett in addition to PS4 and Xbox One. Two of Ubisoft’s unannounced games are also going to be cross-gen.
Watch Dogs: Legion, Gods & Monsters and Rainbow Six: Quarantine are the three delayed games now confirmed for current and next-gen consoles. There are two unannounced games also getting this treatment, one of which may well be the next Assassin’s Creed, as the franchise is expected to return in 2020 after taking a break this year.
With these games running on next-gen hardware, Ubisoft says players can expect faster downloads, better frame rates and other improvements, as expected of new consoles.

KitGuru Says: I’m not sure I’ll take Ubisoft’s word at face value when it comes to frame rates. However, it will be nice to see more of next year’s titles being developed for more powerful hardware. This could have a knock-on effect for PC users too, as developers start to target higher-end hardware and make improvements that can apply to both next-gen console and PC versions of games.
