Ahead of its soft launch on the 19th of November, Google has announced the list of games that those who have purchased the Founder's or Premiere editions will be able to play on Stadia’s launch day. Stadia will have “12 carefully-chosen games on day one, and an additional 14 will be available by the end of the year”. You only get one launch day, and it seems like Google Stadia’s won’t necessarily be the most inspiring.
The 12 games available at launch will be: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Destiny 2, GYLT, Just Dance 2020, Kine, Mortal Kombat 11, Red Dead Redemption 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Samurai Shodown, Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Thumper, and Tomb Raider: Definitive edition.
The launch line up contains some particularly interesting entries. Games such as Mortal Kombat 11 and Samurai Shodown rely heavily on low latency due to the nature of fighting games. Google previously announced that Stadia would use a technology that could lead to “Negative latency”, so perhaps the inclusion of these games are a testament to Google's faith in its service and technology.
Google also announced the 14 additional games that would be available to purchase by the end of 2019: Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle, Borderlands 3, Darksiders Genesis, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Farming Simulator 19, Final Fantasy 15, Football Manager 2020, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Grid, Metro Exodus, NBA 2K20, Rage 2, Trials Rising and Wolfenstein: Youngblood.
While the list Google selected is certainly varied, many of these games are either old or finite experiences, meaning that many are likely to have already played these games. Only one of the games is platform exclusive (GYLT). Hopefully when Stadia Base releases in 2020, the service will have a much-improved list of titles, but until then, these 26 games will make up Google Stadia.
