Amid ‘overhaul’, The Elder Scrolls: Blades for Switch delayed to 2020

The Elder Scrolls: Blades was first announced at E3 2018. The game was said to be an Elder Scrolls game which could be played on mobile. Alongside the mobile release, a port for the Nintendo Switch was promised. While the game released on mobile in early 2019, news of the Nintendo Switch version was nowhere to be found. Amid a major retooling of many of the game’s mechanics, Bethesda has announced that the Switch port has been delayed to “Early 2020”.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades released in Early-Access in March of 2019. The free-to-play game received a mixed reception, with many claiming that the reward system was too grindy and focused too heavily on encouraging the purchase of microtransactions. The game has gradually been updated, with Bethesda now announcing update version 1.5 to be released in December.

In the “Blades Town Hall”, Bethesda Game Studios announced that “amidst all the other changes we’re making to Blades, we’ve had to delay our Switch release until early 2020. We can’t wait until you can begin your quest in Blades on the Switch, and we’re confident this additional time will let us deliver the polished gameplay our fans deserve. We deeply appreciate your patience!”

Update 1.5 itself will be bringing with it “The complete removal of Chest timers”, and a “major loot overhaul”. Furthermore, the previously announced PvP Arena will become available with 1.5. Lastly, the update will bring with it the ability to create and join guilds, allowing you to “Trade materials with one of your guildmates”, among other features.

It appears that Bethesda is aiming to fix many of the issues that were levied towards The Elder Scrolls: Blades, and gain back some goodwill from its fans, especially after a number of controversies that have plagued the publisher in recent months.
