Acer’s latest Predator gaming monitor pushes 240Hz on an IPS panel

Since the introduction of 240Hz gaming displays, most of them have been based on TN panels. Back in September, the Acer Nitro range received an upgrade with the world's first IPS 240Hz monitor and now, that technology is also transitioning over to the Acer Predator range. 

The Acer Predator XB273 X has been announced this week, complete with Nvidia G-Sync, 99% sRGB colour gamut coverage, a slim ‘zero frame' design and a 27-inch IPS panel running at a maximum 240Hz refresh rate. With the extreme refresh rate in mind, it shouldn't be a surprise to hear that this is also a 1080p monitor.

You will need to use the DisplayPort 1.2 connection for G-Sync adaptive sync, although Xbox One S and Xbox One X owners can activate FreeSync variable refresh rate over a HDMI connection. The minimum GTG response time here is 0.1ms but typical response time is 1ms.

The monitor has 400 nits of peak brightness, so while it is not DisplayHDR certified, it does meet the minimum brightness requirement to display HDR content on Windows. The monitor uses Acer's Ergo Stand, with tilt, swivel and height adjustment but users can mount onto a VESA stand or arm of their choice using the 100x100mm mounting holes.
