Media Molecule is one of PlayStation’s most unique studios, focusing on highly artful/experimental titles, with an emphasis on creativity. Unfortunately, their most recent endeavour – Dreams – seemingly failed to perform, leading to the recent shutdown of all support. Fortunately, it looks like the team are once again working on another brand new idea.
As discovered by Reddit user ‘Careless_Main3’ a job being listed as ‘Principal Programmer – Art Designer’ has popped up by Media Molecule.
Among the various title descriptions and expectations, one of the primary responsibilities with the role is to “Partner closely with the wider programming team to define and champion technical requirements and standards for Mm's new IP.”
Since its founding, Media Molecule have worked mostly on original titles, with their only sequel being LittleBigPlanet 2 (after which the Sackboy IP was handed off to Sumo Digital).
As such, it isn’t too surprising to see the team working on another original title despite Dream’s relative failure. Though leaks suggested that the studio was almost shut down as part of recent industry lay-offs, it is exciting to know that Media Molecule still have the creative spark and are hopefully being given the freedom they need.
KitGuru says: What do you think of Mm’s current situation? What do you want to see them work on next? Will this new IP include a custom creation mode? Let us know down below.
