Fortnite finally adds Guitar controller support

Last year Epic Games surprised many when they quadrupled the scope of their Fortnite Battle Royale game, adding a LEGO building mode, a racing mode, and the Guitar Hero-esque Fortnite Festival. As part of Fortnite Festival’s 3rd Season, Guitar controllers are now supported.

Making the announcement on their blog alongside all Season 3 additions and changes, the team at Epic Games revealed their new support for wireless guitar controllers, saying:

“You can now use your Rock Band 4 guitar controllers to go all out on new Pro Lead and Pro Bass song parts on the Main Stage on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC!”

Currently, just 6 specific controllers are supported, with more peripherals coming in the future:

  • RIFFMASTER Wireless Guitar Controller (for PlayStation)
  • Rock Band 4 Rivals Wireless Fender Jaguar Guitar (for PlayStation)
  • Rock Band 4 Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar (for PlayStation)
  • RIFFMASTER Wireless Guitar Controller (for PC and Xbox)
  • Rock Band 4 Rivals Wireless Fender Jaguar Guitar (for Xbox)
  • Rock Band 4 Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar (for Xbox)

Alongside the mode itself, Epic/Harmonix will continue to add new features and support more hardware, with Drums said to be coming at some point.

Though rather rudimentary at launch, it is exciting to see Fortnite slowly becoming a genuine replacement for Guitar Hero / Rock Band.
