FromSoftware’s Miyazaki addresses industry layoffs

2024 has been a terrible year for developers in the video games industry, with tens of thousands of creatives being let go from nearly every single major publisher. Discussing the current climate, and how he will ensure such a situation does not take place at FromSoftware, Miyazaki claimed “As long as this company is my responsibility, that's something I would not let happen.”

In an interview with PCGamer, FromSoftware Boss Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked about the current trend of industry lay-offs. Giving a rather transparent response, Miyazakli stated:

“Speaking to myself and this company, I want to say that this is not something I would wish on the staff at FromSoftware in a million years. I'm pretty sure our parent company Kadokawa understands that and shares that view.”

Making reference to the famous actions by ex-Nintendo Head Satoru Iwata during Nintendo’s Wii U struggles, Miyazaki continued “I think it was the old ex-president of Nintendo, Iwata-san, who said that ‘people who are afraid of losing their jobs are afraid of making good things.' I'm paraphrasing that, but I totally share this view.”

Offering a concrete stance on his position, he concluded by claiming “While we can't say 100%—we can't say with complete certainty what the future's going to hold for From and Kadokawa—at least as long as this company is my responsibility, that's something I would not let happen. So hopefully our players and our fans can take a little bit of assurance from that.”

Hopefully this remains the case, and that more higher-ups are able to share a similar mindset.
