Amy Hennig joins Skydance creative team to open new game studio

Amy Hennig is one of the video game industry’s most well known creators. She is best known for having written and directed the Uncharted Trilogy, as well as the Legacy of Kain series. After leaving Naughty Dog in 2014, Hennig joined EA, and was working on a Star Wars title which was ultimately cancelled. Hennig has now finally revealed what her next move is. Amy Hennig will be joining the Skydance creative team to “explore new frontiers in interactive storytelling”.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Hennig stated: “Thrilled to announce that I’m joining the Skydance creative team in a venture to explore new frontiers in interactive storytelling!”

Further details were provided in a press release by Skydance Media, who explained that Hennig would be “form[ing] a new division to shape the future of interactive media. Designed to reach gamers and non-gamers alike on emerging streaming platforms, new story-focused experiences – crafted as an interactive series – will employ state-of-the-art computer graphics to provide the visual fidelity of television film, but with an active, lean-in experience that puts the audience in the driver’s seat”.

Amy hennig has been in the video game industry for over 30 years. She is an award-winning director, having directed and written the Uncharted Trilogy, as well as the Legacy of Kain series. Other notable works include directing Jak 3. Hennig Left Naughty Dog in 2014, moving to Visceral Games. She performed writing duties for Battlefield Hardline, but her major project at the studio was to be an Uncharted-styled Star Wars game. Hennig was slated to be the Creative Director, until Visceral Games was shut down by EA in 2017, alongside the project.

Henning has until now, remained relatively quiet about her future endeavours. Skydance Media has been primarily focused on producing films and TV shows, although that appears to be changing. With Hennig’s expertise in cinematic storytelling and producing games with a great visual fidelity, it appears that her partnership with Skydance Media will be a suitable fit. No projects have been announced as of yet, but based on Hennig’s previous works, expect it to arrive alongside a wave of anticipation.
