EK Vardar has been one of the most popular PC case fans for quite a few years, with its excellent airflow and low noise levels. EK Water Blocks is taking the Vardar to the next level now by going digital with the EK-Vardar EVO.
EK-Vardar EVO fans are available in a 140mm version, to begin with, whether a 120mm version arrives later we are yet to find out. The new EK-Vardar 140ER D-RGB will be equipped with advanced addressable lighting diodes and includes an Extended Range PWM operation feature, with a start-stop function to offer true 0dB silent operation.
The new EK-Vardar’s are ideal for use in all types of PC cooling scenarios. However, due to the high static pressure, they are best suited to custom liquid cooling radiators. The new design utilises a black square frame that completely covers the radiator shape so does not allow air to escape, ensuring optimal airflow.
The fan features seven opaque, frosted blades for optimal light dispersion from the nine addressable LEDs inside the hub. D-RGB lighting in the EK-Vardar EVO can be customised and controlled by motherboard RGB sync software due to its standard 3-pin 5V D-RGB connectivity. The EK-Vardar EVO 140ER D-RGB is compatible with Asus Aura Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light and ASRock Polychrome Sync.
A dual ball bearing design, as often seen in industrial fans, is used in the EK-Vardar EVO, with an operational speed range of 400–1600 RPM. This extended range offers compatibility with a greater amount of usage scenarios, by providing either silence or high-performance options from a single fan. Along with this wide PWM range, the fan features a true 0dB start-stop function.
When the fan curve is set to a minimum threshold point below 25–30% PWM duty cycle, the motor will turn off and the fan will stop spinning, for completely silent operation. The fan will be triggered to start spinning again once the fan control ramps up operational duty cycle past the threshold start point.

KitGuru Says: I have personally used the original EK-Vardar fans in my own gaming rig for some years now and can say they are very good at keeping temperatures under control while being quiet enough to not become distracting. If you are looking for fans, the new RGB Vardar’s might be worth checking out.
