Google Stadia store finally available outside of the mobile app

When Google Stadia first launched, one of the grievances consumers had with the service was the inability to buy games from anywhere other than the Stadia mobile app. Google appears to have rectifed this issue, with users now being able to buy games from their desktop via the Chrome browser. There is still no way to purchase Stadia games directly from the Chromecast however.

Making the announcement via Twitter, the Google Stadia account said “Finding your favorite games just got easier! The Stadia store is rolling out on the web, giving you a new way to browse and buy your favorite games right from your Chrome browser on desktop. Check it out today!”

Previously, the only way to purchase any games for the service was through the mobile app, meaning that consumers who didn’t have a compatible smartphone, were unable to buy any games for the service. While allowing purchases through the web browser on a computer or laptop is a positive first step, the ability to purchase games via the Chromecast client is still unavailable, with no word on when the functionality will arrive.

While Google Stadia is still missing a breadth of previously-promised features, it’s encouraging to see that the service is slowly improving, even if it is in the form of small quality-of-life improvements.
