Back in 2015, Google had a big shakeup, forming a new parent company called ‘Alphabet' and restructuring executive positions. At the time, Sundar Pichai took on the role of CEO at Google, while Google co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, took on new roles leading the Alphabet parent company. Now after a lengthy career, Page and Brin are stepping down from their leadership positions.
This week, it was announced that Larry Page and Sergey Brin would be stepping down as CEO and President of Alphabet respectively. Moving forward, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, will also take on CEO duties at Alphabet.
In a joint letter from Page and Brin, the pair said: “We've never been ones to hold on to management roles when we think there's a better way to run the company”, adding that “Alphabet and Google no longer need two CEOs and a President”.
While they will no longer have active management roles, Page and Brin did say that they would remain “actively involved as board members, shareholders and co-founders”.

KitGuru Says: Page and Brin co-founded Google over 20 years ago, so this is quite the change, although the writing may have been on the wall since the 2015 shakeup that brought Alphabet into the world.
