AOC announces two new ultrawide monitors for gamers

AOC is once again expanding its gaming monitor portfolio with new products. The new AOC CU34G2 and the AOC CU34G2X are both 34in ultrawide curved monitors, part of the gaming-oriented G2 series, but there's one key difference between the two.

These two monitors have a 34-inch VA curved (1500R) display with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels. According to AOC, both models are similar on the outside and the inside with one key difference, the refresh rate: while the CU34G2X has a 144Hz refresh rate, the CU34G2 employs a 100Hz refresh rate.

The display used in both monitors has 178/178 º viewing angles, a contrast ratio of 3000:1 and a maximum brightness of 300cd/m², covering 88% of the Adobe RGB colour gamut (92% for the CU34G2) and 119% of the sRGB colour gamut (124% for the CU34G2) with its 8-bit depth. The response time of 1ms MPRT and freesync support, alongside the high refresh rates that these monitors employ, make them “perfectly suited for competitive gamers.”

As connections go, there are 2x HDMI ports, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 4x USB 3.0 Type-A ports, and a 3.5mm audio output jack. Regarding ergonomic features, both models can swivel (30º ±2º), tilt (3.5° ±1.5° ∼ 21.5° ±1.5°), and their height is adjustable by 130mm. Both have VESA 100×100 support and a pair of built-in speakers.

Additional features include FlickerFree and Low Blue Light technologies, for the user's eye well-being. For gamers, there's the AOC Game Color, which enables saturation adjustment for “better grey levels and picture detail”, and Dial Point, a feature that displays an on-screen crosshair for aiming assistance.

Both the AOC CU34G2 and AOC CU34G2X will be available in January 2020, priced at £399 and £499, respectively.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
