DFI unveils the GHF51, a Ryzen-based alternative to Raspberry Pi

The single board computer – or SBC – is a popular accessory in many homes. Since its initial release, Raspberry Pi has been a leading player in the SBC market, but DFI is looking to shake things up with its new Ryzen-based GHF51 SBC.

Raspberry Pi Foundation hasn't been the only player in the SBC market. Other companies, like Orange Pi, have also offered different variants of the small computers -the common denominator between the different manufacturers being that they deliver ARM-based systems. Now DFI is looking to change the status quo by releasing a single board computer with an AMD Ryzen embedded R1000 series processor.

The device is designed according to the 1.8″ SBC Form Factor, meaning that it measures 84mm (3.31″) x 55mm (2.17″). The GHF51 will support Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux as its operating system. In spite of being able to run Windows 10, the device isn't primarily targeting the consumer market. This is shown by DFI choosing to list the upcoming computer on their website as an “Industrial Motherboard” – indicating that their aim is to reach factory owners and other industrial markets.

DFI GHF51 is displayed with the options to go for either 2, 4 or 8 GB of DRR4 RAM. It's also able to support resolutions up to 4096×2160 at 24Hz. While we know the AMD processor used in the small computer is listed to consume up to 12W of power, we're still not sure how much power the whole device will consume when being used.

The pricing of DFI's upcoming device is still unknown. According to LinuxGizmoz, the DFI GHF51 is expected to be released in Q3 2020. More information about the product can be found on DFI's website.
