Artifact updates to arrive after Half-Life: Alyx launch

It has been a long 18 months since Valve released Artifact. Shortly after the card game’s launch, it became clear that it wasn’t catching on in its current form and as a result, the team has gone silent and quietly begun working on Artifact 2.0. This week, Gabe Newell made some public comments about the game and now for the first time in a year, the Artifact website has updated with a new blog post.

Gabe Newell said during interviews this week that “Artifact was an interesting failure in its first-go around”, adding that Valve still plans to fix wherre it went wrong and “take another run at it”.

Now, the Artifact team has also shared some words on the status of the game, writing the following message on the game's official website:

“First off, we wanted to say thanks for all of your tweets, emails and posts. The continued interest in Artifact has been encouraging, and we sincerely appreciate all of the feedback! You might notice some changes soon – we are starting tests on our systems and infrastructure. This shouldn’t impact live Artifact but we wanted to give you a heads up. Expect more news after the launch of Half-Life: Alyx!”

Of course, that doesn't mean we'll be getting another Artifact update next week, or even next month. However, it would seem that the re-launch is nearing completion.

KitGuru Says: Artifact looks set to return this year after a lengthy hiatus, which is good news. The game got a lot of flack for its economy choices but gameplay wise, I found it to be a cut above the likes of Hearthstone. Hopefully this upcoming second attempt can turn things around.
