Intel to donate $6 million to support coronavirus relief

A lot of businesses have been donating to coronavirus relief efforts recently, including sports leagues, game developers, retailers and tech companies. Intel is increasing its efforts this week, setting aside $6 million to help in certain areas.

In an announcement this week, Intel confirmed that it will “provide $4 million to support coronavirus relief efforts in communities where the company has significant presence”. Intel will also be matching donations made by employees and U.S retirees to a total of $2 million.

The $4 million figure will be distributed amongst organisations focusing on food, security, medical equipment, shelter and small-business support. Donation areas include Arizona, California, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Oregon and Texas in the United States. Internationally, Intel is also supplying donations in Costa Rica, India, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico and Vietnam.

This builds on Intel's earlier donation, in which it sent $1 million to Red Cross and also 1 million gloves, masks and other equipment for healthcare workers.

KitGuru Says: This is a much appreciated move by Intel, which has a foundation in place for global crises situations like the COVID-19 outbreak. Hopefully in the next few months, significant progress can be made towards minimising the spread and finding new methods of treatment.
