Square Enix confirms it is shipping Final Fantasy VII Remake ‘far earlier’ than planned

Over the weekend, we learned that some pre-order customers were getting their physical copies of Final Fantasy VII Remake very early. This morning, Square Enix has clarified the situation, saying that in order to ensure as many people get their copy in time for launch, it began shipping disc copies far earlier than usual.

“We had some hard decisions to make during the final weeks before launch due to disruption channels caused by the spread of the COVID-19 virus”, the statement reads. “These unique circumstances have made it very difficult to align timing of our global shipping. Our highest priority is that all of you, including those who live in countries currently facing the biggest disruption, can play the game at launch”.

Due to this, Square Enix “made the decision to ship the game far earlier than usual to Europe and Australia”. Folks in the Americas may also begin receiving early copies as soon as this week, as more shipments are being sent out to Western regions.

Due to the situation, the Final Fantasy VII Remake team is asking fans “one big favour”. Those who get the game early are asked to “please think of others and don't spoil it for them”. Of course, Final Fantasy VII is a 20 year old game, but the remake is “a new game that still has many surprises for everyone”.

KitGuru Says: We are still just under two weeks away from the official launch of Final Fantasy VII Remake, but it would seem that there will be more early copies floating around than usual. With that in mind, if you are sensitive to spoilers, be sure to take extra care until you can get your hands on the game and play for yourself.
