MacBook Air owners may face issues with anti-reflective coating on Retina displays

Back in October 2018, Apple gave the MacBook Air a much needed upgrade, complete with Retina displays with anti-reflective coating. Now, it appears that the anti-reflective coating may be an issue, as Apple is apparently aware that some customers are ending up with defected displays.

As reported by MacRumours, Apple Authorised Service Providers have been sent a memo that says: “Retina displays on some MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro computers can exhibit anti-reflective (AR) coating issues”. Previously, the list only included the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, so the Air is a new addition to this list.

Apple does have a free repair program for the MacBook Pro and MacBook that suffer from defective coating, but the MacBook Air has not been added to the list of eligible devices for free repair. The program was originally started by Apple back in 2015, due to increasing ‘Staingate' controversy.

Since this news about the MacBook Air came out, Apple denied that the Air has this issue, However, an Apple Authorised technician has disagreed, saying that several MacBook Airs have been serviced due to worn anti-reflective coating. Apple may need to do some investigation and release a new statement.

KitGuru Says: This is an odd one, as technicians and Apple are disagreeing with each other. Hopefully for the most part, MacBook Air owners won't experience issues.
