The Early Access version of the new Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has just been released and it is already breaking records. This new Mount & Blade title is the most successful game on Steam in 2020, peaking at 220,000 players in-game at the same time.
It seems that the “worldwide quarantine” caused by the COVID-19 was a motivation for the earlier than anticipated release of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Early Access, as TaleWorlds stated. And it seems it has paid off given that the recently launched game, which has been out for only two days, is already a record-breaking success.
After a development period of 8 years, the game released on the 30th of March, and after three hours, it already gathered a massive amount of sales. In these first three hours, the game had a peak of 145,000 concurrent players and +1250 reviews (88% rating) on Steam, making it the biggest launch of this year on the Steam store.

According to CCN, fans have been waiting for the Mount & Blade sequel for almost a decade, and it looks like it was worth it. At the time of writing, the game peaked at close to 220,000 concurrent players, only behind popular titles like CS: GO, PUBG, and Dota 2. This number may still rise, but only time will tell when it will hit its ceiling. On Twitch, the game has also garnered quite a viewership, with up to 229,000 viewers.
